Story behind the character: The monkey from the Monkey and the Sock is obviously one of the main characters. When Anna gets lost in the forest at night, the monkey helps her find her way back home.

Charity: Well, Mr. Monkey... Er, do you have a name?”

Monkey: Ooh ooh, aah aah!

Charity: I see, yes I realize it's my job to give you one. Well, do you have anything in particular you want to talk about?

Monkey: Ooh ooh, aah aah!

Charity: Very well then. The reason I chose you to find Anna and take her home is because of my brother.

Monkey: Ooh ooh?

Charity: Yes, my brother Ben. You see, a looooong time ago, my brother was trying to say something but it came out as “the monkey and the sock” and then he said, “Say, that would make a great book title! Hey! You're a writer! You should write a book called the Monkey and the Sock!” I didn't for the longest time, but I finally did. Anyway, so that's why I had to have you help Anna and find her sock, because you are a monkey and I needed a monkey to find her sock.”

Charity: Yes, I suppose there were plenty of other monkeys I could have used, after all, there was a whole family of them. But you were the only one that could do flips and things. Besides, weren't you trained by Anna's parents?
